MICHAEL MAHONEY has worked as a professional artist for over 30 years. Many of those years he worked as an illustrator for clients like the U. S. Forest Service. He created hundreds of complex paintings to depict wildlife in natural habitats. In 2005, during the celebration of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial, he was commissioned by several different clients to design and produce over 50 paintings to show the humanity of their adventures. He also became internationally known for private commissions of detailed fish paintings.

So why talk about any of this while promoting a fiction Novel?

Painters are primarily observers, who then interpret. They must find the most obvious essence of every subject to achieve credible communication. Writing and art always go hand in hand. When something is difficult to describe with words, an illustration saves the day. When an artist puts together a showing, some of the real meaning might be missed without a written narrative.

This book came to Mike through three facets of his work: 1. Years of finding the very essence of subjects. 2. The paradoxical nature of creating dimensional illusions. 3. Many hours of contemplation in the solitude of a studio. (He switched to acrylic paint before writing the book, so fumes aren't totally to blame.)

Today Michael is painting expressive gallery work...and writing with the insight and imagination of an artist.
